SPACE (0-10's)

Welcome to  SPACE

The Vision
Children are very important to us and so precious to God, that we wanted to create something special crayons_in_star_shapefor them.

This place — the community of children - is called SPACE, which was inspired by the passage in Philippians where we are called shine liked stars in the dark world.  Here our children meet with their friends and God through worship, prayer and bible teaching, fun and games.

"Shine like stars in the universe" Philippians 2:15

SPACE is a exciting, dynamic and growing but it is also a safe place where the children are well cared for and covered in prayer. Denise Hartwell  -  Children’s Pastor

How do we achieve it?
We aim to help the children develop their own faith and expect to see God use them. Therefore, we have the same components as grown ups.

Worship: We sing age-appropriate songs of worship every week. The Youth Band come in one Sunday a month to lead worship for the 5 years+ age group.
Prayer: Each week we pray with the children in small groups, encouraging them to pray on their own and for each other.
Teaching: We have a short bible story with related activities, games, drama and crafts to help the children understand the significance of what they have learnt.
Service: Children are encouraged to help and serve each other, sponsor a child overseas and be part of the Big Challenge, if possible.
Evangelism: Friends are welcome at all events, whether Sunday mornings, parties or socials.  Don’t forget them!

Regular Socials
Once a month, the 5+ age groups have socials (films, games, parties etc) - please see the Outer SPACE calendar at the bottom of this page. The younger children are catered for via Mum’s lunches and all ages are welcome at our regular Family lunches, which happen after the Sunday service.

The SPACE team
The Space team make it all happen.  They commit to one Sunday per month i.e Week 1, 2, 3 or 4*  and turn up at 10am to set the rooms up and welcome the children.  They also ensure the morning is well planned and pray for the children in the week.

The Space team have 2 main aims:

1. To help the children develop their own faith
2. To keep the children safe.

The SPACE team:
• Are all CRB (police) checked and are accountable to House Group leaders and Denise.
• Arrange a swap with another team member if they cannot make their week, to ensure we have the right amount of cover in each group.  (Please ensure Denise is aware of any swaps).
• Receive regular training — About 5 Sunday evening training sessions and one full day per year. This enables us to grow as a team, develop personal skills and contribute to development of Space.

The 5th week
Four times a year there are 5 Sundays in the month. The 1st one is covered by the week 1 team, the 2nd by the week 2 team etc. Don't worry, this is backed up by email reminders!

Registration
On their first day, a form is filled in for all children detailing their name, age, address and any special needs*. Then each Sunday, parents receive a badge with their child’s name on it when they register, which is returned at the end of the service, when the child is picked up. (around 12:00).

In order to provide the highest level of care for our children, we need a good ratio of team members to children. Therefore, we encourage parents to join the Space team and recommend that at least one parent of every Space-age child joins a Sunday team i.e. Week 1, 2, 3 or 4 in any age group.

Input from the Space Team is highly valued and your contribution on a Sunday provides the children with useful role models and bridges into the wider church. Not only that, but it is great fun! Ask Denise for details.

* Please be sure to inform the Space Team if your child has any special needs, allergies, etc or if you do not wish him/her to have biscuits or squash.
